Afghan NGOs to attend Afghanistan Conference

25 Mar 2009 | Since Tuesday 23 March, Afghan NGOs have been preparing for the Afghanistan Conference in The Hague on 31 March. They are meeting at UNAMA headquarters and elsewhere to discuss human rights, freedom of expression, women’s rights, reconstruction and development, and aid effectiveness.
The discussions are intended to produce a joint statement for the Conference. The Netherlands sponsored one of these preparatory sessions.
An NGO delegation, headed by the chair of the Agency Coordinating Body for Afghan Relief (ACBAR), will attend the Conference on behalf of Afghan civil society.
The NGOs represented include the Helping Afghan Farmers Organisation (HEFO), Coordination of Afghan Relief (CoAR), the Skill Training and Rehabilitation Society (STARS), the Mission d’Aide au Développement des Economies Rurales en Afghanistan (MADERA), the Afghan Women’s Network (AWN), and the Afghanistan Civil Society and Human Rights Network (CSHRN).
