More than 4,000 Afghans have been affected by the recent floodwaters hit the north and the northeastern Afghanistan, according to UN

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in a news conference on Monday said 16 Afghan districts are blocked by the floodwaters, which has made it hard for the aid agencies to extend humanitarian supports to the flood-hit villages.

"Afghan officials and the international humanitarian agencies are working together to identify the vulnerable people," Nazifullah Salarzai, a UNAMA spokesperson said.

Some 2,000 houses in 207 villages have been totally or partially destroyed after heavy rain across five provinces, affecting more than 4,000 families, the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan said.

The flooding damaged more than 100 bridges and around 600 kilometres of roads, according to a UN statement.

Almost 30 people were also killed by flooding in northern areas of the country earlier this month.

Kunduz, the neighbouring Takhar province is second most affected province that thousands of acres of farm lands are destroyed and nearly 10,000 cattle were perished.

"World Food Program employees are in Badakhshan to open the road to the districts as soon as possible," Mr Salarzai added.

The UNAMA spokesman said humanitarian aids have been delivered to a few hundreds of flood victims in Takhar and in Baghlan provinces.
